Brewery History
Jyotokuya Brewery has its origins in the Edo period when the Nakazono family began trading under the name "Jyotokuya" in the current location of Monzen-machi, Yokkaichi Yokomachi. Initially, the business focused on the production and sale of tobacco, following the establishment of the national tobacco monopoly law leads to the beginning of sake production in 1907, marking the official founding of Jyotokuya Brewery under Tairaichi as the first generation.
The brewery operated primarily as a sake producer until 1984. As market dynamics shifted, it collaborated with another sake manufacturer in Usa City to establish a sales company and transitioned into a shochu distillery. In 2003, Jyotokuya Brewery became independent again, launching the "Jyotokuya" brand. Leveraging its long-standing sake-making expertise, the brewery emphasizes quality over quantity in every step of production, from koji making to distillation and storage.
